Ostrich Festival

Tumbleweed park has transformed into one of Chandler’s top spring attractions: the Ostrich Festival! The Ostrich Festival, beginning March 10 and running through the 12th, promises to be larger and more spectacular than ever. Adhering to tradition, the festival will host the beloved namesakes themselves — the ostriches! This year, the festival will also host zebras and camels as well.

There is also a separate pen where pigs will be competing to reach the finish line during pig races. Not only that, but the festival will host camel and pony rides throughout each day. These rides are exciting, but also safe for children. A petting zoo will be present at the festival as well, featuring various farm animals.

Farm animals aren’t the only featured animals at the festival. There will be a K9 Comets Frisbee Dogs Show which showcases dogs of all types performing astonishing frisbee tricks.

But the fun doesn’t stop with the animals! Acrobats Mango and Dango will perform in an exhilarating circus show featuring juggling, stilt walking, miming, aerial tricks and more. There will also be a High Dive Show where performers dive into a portable pool from great heights, and the i-Flip show which includes bungee jumping, free falls and other tricks.

Be sure to visit at the McCroskey house, a historic dwelling that represents the early inhabitants of Chandler. This guided tour allows you to immerse yourself in the lives of those whom lived 100 years ago. Also feel free to take a visit down a more modern area, where Ryan ‘ARCY’ Christenson displays his colorful street art. ARCY has done work for the Smithsonian, the Walt Disney Hometown Museum and for the National Parks Service.

There is something for everyone at the Ostrich Festival. A ‘Drone Zone’ will be provided, where children and adults learn how to use and fly this revolutionary equipment. Various rides will also be present including ferris wheels, spinning roller coasters and much more.

Stars Get Involved: International Women’s Day

Wednesday, March 8th is International Women’s day, a day that hails the many achievements of women in social, cultural, and political landscapes. This year, however, women have decided to take a different stance on the celebrated day. Feminists have largely decided that this particular day would serve as a day for protest, where women take off work in large numbers, wear red, and shop minimally. Referred to as ‘A Day Without A Woman,’ this protest has garnered the support of many Hollywood celebrities.

“Harry Potter” star Emma Watson has been actively supporting the movement on Twitter, posting that both she and helpers will be hiding various feminist books around the world. “Scandal’s” Kerry Washington also spoke out to say that she too would be wearing feminist attire in honor of the day. MTV even flipped the ‘M’ in their logo to transform it into a ‘W’ in support of International Women’s Day. Feminist activists have been speaking out all over Hollywood, supporting the movement today and every day.
