Oscar Blunder
“And the Oscar goes to…La La Land!”

This is what Emma Dunaway announced alongside Warren Beatty at the 2017 Oscars. The former Bonnie and Clyde costars put together a charming presentation to announce the most important award of the night. The only problem was that La La Land did not, in fact, win the Oscar. But this revelation did not come to light until after the cast and crew had already crowded the stage. The producers were giving their acceptance speeches when they were informed that the film Moonlight was actually meant to be the Oscar recipient. The La La Land crew courteously exited the stage, whereupon the producers of Moonlight respectfully took their place.
PwC, the accounting firm for the Oscars, has taken full responsibility for the incident. The firm, which is in charge of calculating and arranging the winners, explained that they mistakenly handed the wrong envelope to the presenters.
